Behind the Scenes of Illegal Downloading

Unlike most people might think, piracy is not necessarily a bad thing for copyright holders. In fact, German pirate-tracking outfit DigiRights Solutions shows that copyright holders can earn 150 times more money from illicit downloads than from iTunes and other legal stores.

It has been reported by the German-based anti-piracy outfit DigiRights Solutions (DRS) with an interesting PowerPoint presentation which shows how copyright holders can make millions from pirates. The document reveals some rather shocking statistics that show how illicit downloads are more profitable than legal downloads.

“Building on a Japanese Crisis”

Just from my wallet.

Just from my wallet.

Economic obstacles are always being challenged by this world, but these problems are never avoidable; we can only fight back by focusing on one at a time. As the economic bubble burst in the country of Japan, signs of the slacking economy has been identified. Although the country still holds it’s fame through their wide and rapid advancement in technology and such, these economical identifications may bring an end to it’s course. The identified problems include the problem of deflation and the consequences of not tackling it at an earlier stage.

CA Economics Seminar 2010

The economics seminar went fairly well as a class, but I did not do so well in my part. The class discussed the flaws and weaknesses of capitalism to share many of our opinions as well as interesting facts to also look at the perspectives on socialism. I think the values of the seminar is that of exploring views from other perspectives, and learning to see the positive and negative sides of something. I guess that I will do better next time since I have a better comprehension of how the seminar flows, hence I understand where and when I can come in to give my opinions.

Market Failure: Spill Over Effects of Teenage Alcohol Consumption & Noise Polution

In response to the two videos:

BBC Report on Schoolies Week

BBC Report on Noise Pollution

Externalities of the two videos are the public annoyance, damage, harm etc. Although these “problems” may be disallowing neighbors to sleep at night due to worries and disturbance (which will perhaps decrease their efficiency at work during the day), the positive side to this is that “problems” will give more jobs to those that do not have any by patrolling and protecting the young ones of the country.

addiction exploitation fail

Electronic cigarettes have been invented by firms to attract smokers by letting them believe that they provide the same effects as normal ones. These cigarettes are made of plastic and consists of batteries that provide the electronic device with enough energy to vaporize nicotine. The cigarette has been considered a “healthy living” product and targets many of the smokers that are working to quit.

To much skepticism, investigations by the FDA has been conducted to demonstrate how, instead of providing a “healthy living,” harmful it can be. It has been reported that “the FDA found that chemical formulas for the smoky vapor often contained dangerous components; at least one manufacturer used diethylene glycol as a key ingredient, a chemical commonly used in antifreeze and toxic to humans.” Additionally, now a new study adds to the doubts about e-cigarettes, indicating that they are about as successful at delivering nicotine as puffing on an unlit cigarette.

Price Discrimination at School

Recently as of our late economics class, we have discussed the concept of price discrimination. Many sellers use this concept to increase their profit, and an example can be found at the school that I attend. The tickets for the school play which is coming up this week is being sold at a cheap price for people that buy them early.

Google Analytics, a web service provided by the same providers as the famous search engine, Google Search, analyses the web to increase viewers.

This free service is often made use of by web masters and administrators. With Google Analytics, these administers are able to keep track of usual visitors on their site, new visitors, what pages they visit, how long they stay on the page, refers from which these visitors found your site, and so on.

By analysing these data, many a valuable information may be concluded, such as what sort of information people are looking for, what increased the number of visitors. When a website is intended to make some profit, using Google Analytics is a very efficient way to understand how it could be increased.
